Dear Clayton School Community:
This letter is to inform you that two students who attend school at the HS/MS building have tested positive for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Both students live in the same household. The District is coordinating closely with public health officials and following CDC, state, and local health department guidance in order to assure the health and safety of our community. Initial contact tracing has identified the individuals who have been in close contact. The people who have been in close contact have been notified and quarantined. Based on the recommendation of local health officials and the COVID-19 risk matrix, our schools will remain open. The status of this situation is fluid, and we are monitoring it closely.
The District has cleaned and disinfected all exposed areas. We encourage parents and students to continue following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention promoted safeguards, such as:
- Staying home when you are sick;
- Washing hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds;
- Covering coughs and sneezes and properly disposing of tissues;
- Limiting close contact with people who are sick and not sharing food, drinks, and utensils;
- Practicing social distancing (staying at least 6 feet apart);
- Wearing a face covering while in school; and
- Continuing to monitor your health for symptoms.
As always, we appreciate your support and cooperation. You can assist us by remaining vigilant but sensible in your approach to dealing with this health concern. Below are some resources that might be helpful.

We hope this letter finds everyone in your family safe and healthy. One of the biggest events in the opening of school is always our Back to School night. We are moving forward with this event but like many things in school this year, it is taking a new form. We cordially invite you to attend our “Virtual Back to School Night” on Thursday, October 1st At 6:00pm, you will be able to view my introduction video which will be posted on the Clayton High School’s webpage,https://claytonps.org/schools/claytonhigh-school/ . At the completion of the introduction video, please follow your child’s schedule by clicking on the teachers’ webpage. Located at the left of the screen, under High School Menu, click Faculty & Staff Websites to view the teachers’ video in the order of their schedule.
Despite not coming into school, you will still be able to see all of your child’s teachers. By visiting the teacher’s website it will provide an excellent opportunity for you to become acquainted with your child’s teachers and the classes they teach. You will also find the teachers course syllabi and contact information. Most of all, it allows you to put faces with the names of the people who teach and are involved in your child’s success. These videos will be accessible for at least 1 week.
Our Guidance Department and Child Study Team will also have videos posted on their main websites to inform you about the services they provide. It is our goal to provide your child with a positive and successful educational experience. Please help us to achieve this by attending our “Virtual Back to School Night” on Thursday, October 1st at 6:00 pm.

Dear Herma Simmons Elementary School Parents/Guardians:
One of the cornerstone events that assists us in launching a school year and maintaining the home and school partnership is our annual Back to School Night. However, in light of the current global situation, this event will be taking on a new format. We cordially invite you to attend our Virtual Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 6:00PM. At that time, you will be able to view an introductory video which will be posted on the Herma S. Simmons Elementary School webpage at https://claytonps.org/schools/herma-simmons-elementary/. At the completion of the video, you will be able to access Faculty and Staff Websites located at the left of the screen. You can click on your child’s teacher to view their recorded video. Please note that these videos will be accessible for at least one week.
Although we cannot meet in person at this time, the virtual format does allow you to be able to put a face and voice to the teachers your child(ren) have been talking about since the opening of school.
Once again, we are thrilled to welcome everyone back to Herma Simmons Elementary School–the school where Nothing Short of Excellence thrives. As always, if I can be of assistance throughout this very unique school year, please do not hesitate to contact me.
