Important Message about Vaping/Juuling

February 8, 2019

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Recently, many high schools in our area have seen a spike in incidents involving student vaping/juuling. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the issue, and to tell you the steps we are taking at Clayton to prevent this behavior.   On Wednesday, February 6, we held class meetings at each grade level.  During this meeting, our Student Assistance Counselor, Mrs. Marrero, presented an educational slide show providing facts about vaping/juuling. This slide show is available on our school’s webpage.

Williamstown High School, in conjunction with the Monroe Municipal Alliance, is sponsoring a forum called “Vaping Me Crazy” on Monday, February 11 at 7:00 pm in their HS auditorium.  They will be discussing vaping & social media and the risks our children face. This event is open to all high school and middle school parents, including those in neighboring communities.

We will continue to have conversations and provide education to students about this topic. As we learn more, we will certainly share that information.

Thank you for your continued support.

Superintendents Message

The Clayton Public School District is pleased to announce its new strategic plan, “Forward 2021:  In Pursuit of Excellence.” Developing Forward 2021 was a true collaborative effort that documented multiple community workshops, focus group sessions, survey questions, and comments. The process began in Fall 2017 with a collection of stakeholder input from current community leaders, parents, students, members of the Clayton Board of Education, District administration, teachers, and staff.

In Spring of 2018, a planning committee was formed to create a strategic plan in response to the primary stakeholder priorities. Forward 2021includes a mission, vision, theory of action, goals, metrics, and core values driven by research and best practices.  The strategic planning committee utilized extensive data gathering to gain an understanding of the strengths and needs of the District from the perspective of the internal and external constituents.  The collected data was used to set forth a purposeful plan that is directed towards establishing higher standards for the District.

Forward 2021 holds the District accountable to measureable goals that will drive student success now and in the future.  The identified goal metrics are a combination of qualitative, quantitative, and perception data. The achievement of this plan will continue to rest on the collaborative process within the District and among community partners.

Forward 2021 Strategic Plan Goals:

  • Goal 1: Provide professional development opportunities to address the instructional needs of staff and students.

  • Goal 2: Provide professional development opportunities to address the instructional needs of staff and students.

  • Goal 3: Provide technology to staff and students to support curriculum and programs to increase student achievement.

  • Goal 4: Foster a healthy, safe, and supportive learning environment for all staff and students.

  • Goal 5: Foster positive community relations through active engagement and effective communication.
