Positive Case Notice – Letter to the School Community (10/26/2020)

Dear Clayton School Community:

This letter is to inform you that a student at Herma Simmons Elementary School has tested positive for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The District is following local health department guidance in order to assure the health
and safety of our community. Initial contact tracing has identified the individuals who have been in close contact. The people who have been in close contact have been notified and quarantined. Based on the recommendation of local health officials and the COVID-19 risk matrix, our schools will remain open. The status of this situation remains fluid, and we are monitoring it closely.

From the time we have opened school we have had several positive COVID-19 cases that you have been notified about. I am able to report that none of the positive cases have been traced back to our schools. But unfortunately, it is a reminder and a warning that the pandemic is real and still active in our community. We need to stay vigilant, wash our hands, wear a mask and practice social distancing. I also want to repeat please do not send your student to school if they are sick and/or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus. We all have a responsibility to not only keep ourselves and families safe but also our neighbors.

School Schedule for the Week of November 2, 2020

In order to comply with the Governor’s Executive order (#177) all Clayton Public school buildings will be closed for in-person instruction for students on Monday, November 2nd and election day, Tuesday, November 3rd.  Both days will be remote “live on line” learning days for all Pre-K-12th grade students.

In addition, Breakfast/Lunch will be available for students to pick up on Monday, November 2nd (for 2 days) and Wednesday, November 4th (for 3 days) from 9am -11am.

This letter is to inform you that a player on the High School field hockey team has tested positive for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The player is a student in our Cyber School Program. The District is coordinating closely with NJSIAA and following local health department guidance in order to assure the health and safety of our community. Initial contact tracing has identified the individuals who have been in close contact. The people who have been in close contact have been notified and quarantined. Based on the recommendation of local health officials and the COVID-19 risk matrix, our schools will remain open. The status of this situation is fluid, and we are monitoring it closely.

We encourage parents and students to continue following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention promoted safeguards, such as:

• Staying home when you are sick;
• Washing hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds;
• Covering coughs and sneezes and properly disposing of tissues;
• Limiting close contact with people who are sick and not sharing food, drinks, and utensils;
• Practicing social distancing (staying at least 6 feet apart);
• Wearing a face covering while in school; and
• Continuing to monitor your health for symptoms.
