NJSLA Testing Schedule for Herma Simmons Elementary

Dear Simmons Parents and Guardians:

We would like to take this opportunity to inform you that the NJSLA Spring 2022 testing will be held
during the month of May. These computer-based assessments are aligned to the New Jersey Student
Learning Standards. The NJSLA is an assessment designed to match the content and skills outlined in the
New Jersey Student Learning Standards that guide classroom instruction. The results from NJSLA, along
with a student’s overall educational learning experience, including performance in the classroom, provide
an overall picture of their academic success and progress towards graduating high school ready to succeed
at college level work.

Herma S. Simmons Elementary School Testing Dates:

  • Science (5th Grade Only) – May 10, 2022 and May 11, 2022
  • ELA (3rd – 5th Grade)
    • 3rd Grade–May 10, 11, and 12, 2022
    • 4th and 5th Grade–May 3, 4 and 5, 2022
  • Math (3rd – 5th Grade)
    • 3rd Grade–May 10, 11, and 12, 2022
    • 4th and 5th Grade–May 3, 4 and 5, 2022

Some portions of the NJSLA contain an audio/video component which requires students
to wear headphones. Students may feel most comfortable wearing their own
earbuds/headphones, in which case they are encouraged to bring a personal set from
home. However, headphones cannot be wireless or Bluetooth enabled.

As part of our school community, you play an important role in preparing your child for this testing
experience. Please have your child in school each day of the testing period. It is also important that they
arrive on time; testing times are not flexible and children who arrive late will not be allowed to test that
day. Students perform best when they have a nourishing breakfast and a restful night’s sleep. Your
support and encouragement can also go a long way to set a positive tone for this test-taking situation.

On behalf of the professional staff of our building, I thank you for your continued support in making
this a valuable experience for students. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not
hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
Scott G. Uribe
Principal
