Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to inform you about a new graduation requirement recently enacted by the New Jersey Department of Education under P.L.2023, c.295. This law mandates that all high school seniors must complete a financial aid application (FAFSA) as a prerequisite for graduation.
Understanding financial aid options is crucial for our students as they prepare for their future educational endeavors. By completing the financial aid application, students gain access to various forms of financial assistance that can make higher education more affordable.
To support this new requirement, we have posted resources on the Guidance Department section of the school website. These can be found in the college information link under the section titled “How to File Your FAFSA Application.”
The NJDOE allows a student’s parent or guardian to complete a waiver form exempting their student from this requirement. A student who is at least 18 years old may also exempt themselves from the requirement. Waiver forms will be made available for you to sign and return to the School Counseling Office.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Together, we can ensure that every student meets this new graduation requirement and is well-prepared for their future academic endeavors. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out to the Guidance Department.
Sincerely,
Mr. Joseph Valentino
Supervisor of Guidance and Counseling
